Featuring a keynote from Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, Executive Director of This World: The Values Network and opening remarks by Prof. Rafi Beyar, CEO and Director General of the Rambam Medical Center, the gala will take place on Tuesday evening, June 4, 2013 at the New York Marriott Marquis, located at 1535 Broadway, New York City. The dinner will be hosted by Kevin Bermeister, Founder of the Jerusalem Development Fund and Governor of This World: The Values Network; and David Sterling, Chairman of Sterling & Sterling, Inc. and Treasurer of American Friends of Rambam.
Awards will be presented in person at the event to the following recipients:
§ Prof. Elie Wiesel – Champion of the Jewish Spirit
§ Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson – Champions of Jewish Identity
§ Dr. Mehmet Oz – Champion of the Jewish Value of Life
Elie Wiesel is a global hero and one of the most respected human beings alive, a global inspiration to people everywhere of the triumph of the human spirit over adversity. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson, who celebrates his 80th birthday this year, have done more to promote Jewish identity and pride – through Birthright Israel, Yad Vashem, the Adelson Educational Campus, and countless other Jewish and medical charities – than any other philanthropists alive. The Adelsons are also among the world’s leading funders of medical research, with a special focus on addiction and rehabilitation. And Dr. Mehmet Oz is not only the world’s most famous doctor, but someone who has brought about a global revolution in healthy and positive living. No other media personality has done more to foster the health of Americans and citizens of the world.
Rabbi Shmuley stated, “I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to host this gathering in celebration of the achievements of some of the most esteemed advocates of the universal values that are the hallmark and legacy of the Jewish people. I believe passionately that Jewish values have great healing to bring to the world, and I am grateful to my friends Prof. Wiesel, Sheldon and Miriam Adelson, and Dr. Oz for their dedication and global service.”
Rafi Beyar added, “Rambam looks forward to honoring Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson, who helped our hospital cope with the extraordinary demands put on us in the dark days of the Lebanon War in the summer of 2006, and Dr. Mehmet Oz’s mission of promoting healthy living throughout the world. Elie Wiesel, the world’s foremost Jewish personality, is the living embodiment of the kind of Jewish values that Rambam, which treats tens of thousands of Jews, Muslims, and Christians every year, embodies and represents.”
